Your Metabolism Slows Down and Stays Down, Unless…

By Craig Ballantyne

I have some bad news for you. According to scientists at New York’s Presbyterian Medical Center at Columbia University, folks who succeed in losing weight tend to wind up suffering from a lower than expected metabolic rate. This means that if you lose weight, you will burn fewer calories each day than someone of the same weight who was never overweight.

Seems unfair, doesn’t it?

The researchers studied three groups: subjects who had lost 10 percent of their bodyweight and kept it off for up to one year, subjects who just recently lost 10 percent of their bodyweight, and a control group.

All of the subjects were studied for 24 hours straight to determine how many calories they burned. Results showed that both weight-loss groups burned fewer calories during the 24 hours than the control group, even though they were matched by weight and gender.

This decrease in calorie burning is just one of the many reasons you will find it easier to regain weight after you lose weight.

So what can you do?

You must do everything you can to boost your metabolism. I highly recommend to all of my clients that they use interval training or high-intensity cardio rather than low-intensity cardio, and that they also engage in high-intensity resistance training three times per week. By performing high-intensity exercise, you will put up the greatest fight against your handicapped metabolism.

Finding Happiness and Hope in Tough Times

Feeling down because of the current state of the economy? Michael Masterson presented a simple way to overcome those feelings of despair in his article “Defeating Depression Before It Defeats You.” ETR readers took comfort in his words. Here’s some of what they had to say:

“I have always admired Michael’s writings & this is another needed message he has delivered. Thank you.”

“Thank you so much for your wonderful article. It was so very helpful and accurate. Self Esteem is exactly the crux of the problem.”

“Good article!

“I have been out of work for almost a year. I have no financial assets anymore, and I am 63 years old. But I work out every day, climb a mountain every weekend, and I have not given up looking for a job. Sure, lots of people would say a 63-year-old guy is not going to find a good job again. I say they are morons!

“Anyone in this predicament should stay active (exercise). Keep the blood pumping and maybe the brain will come up with a new idea.

“Over the course of the last year, I have learned so much more about business (Ready, Fire, Aim) and Internet marketing in particular that I just know it will pay off eventually.

“Thanks for continuing to inspire me!”

“Great Pep Talk!

“At 66, I’ve lost my retirement and nearly all of my savings. I am still hoping to do something productive. I am working on my AWAI copywriting program, and hope to finish next month. The bumps in life can be disturbing, but you have to keep going. Try to smile whenever you can. I find it helps!”
