The morning after our first session, I received an email from Susan outlining the three big take-away lessons she had already started using to improve her web-based business.

Lesson #1 – Use Clickbank.com to research your market

Susan searched the top/hottest/most popular products in her market to see how they were being marketed.

“This is a great new way to do some more market research, and I spent some time yesterday investigating all of the top finance-related products. There are a lot of categories so it also helps focus your niche!” she said.

Lesson #2 – Use the “competition” column in the Google Keyword tool to narrow down your best search terms

According to Susan, “Right now I have no idea how people would find my site, which is obviously completely unacceptable and a recipe for failure, so I need to spend a lot more time here.”

“I had tried the Google tool in the past to get a general idea of ‘how big is the market’ when I first started my site, but you explained how I can use it with a much better level of detail and I will now go back and target much more specifically.”

Lesson #3 – Build your Customer Avatar

“I appreciated your personal story that delivered the level of detail we should have about our “perfect customer”
(target market).”

“I am still too wishy-washy, although I have narrowed it down much more since our one-day coaching session,”
Susan explained.

She also found that hearing my story, about the customer avatar I built in my fitness business, helped her create a one-page document featuring all of the details she knows about my target customer.

She even found a picture to go along with it.

“I now have an avatar of ‘Julie and Rob’ and I wrote out all sorts of details about their lives, interests, employment, housing, etc., thanks to you. I’m looking forward to hearing more about article marketing, the offer (which I still struggle with), and the product next week! Thanks!” – Susan
