3 New Rules for Fat Burning Exercise

Monday was weird. Here’s why. You see, it was our “Memorial Day Long Weekend”. The Canadian version celebrates Victoria Day, and as a teen I spent every long weekend in May working at Cozyn’s Garden Gallery in Stratford, Ontario. After work I’d still make time to go to the YMCA to lift weights. And on Monday I found myself back in that same old gym, where I watched a lot of nice people completely waste their time and damage their bodies.

One guy used terrible exercise form on dangerous deadlifts. Two ladies did useless and backbreaking crunches. Over a dozen people wasted their time with slow cardio on treadmills and ellipticals. No good, no good, no good.

While I did squats and lunges, I thought…WWJRD?

That stands for What Would John Romaniello Do? After all, he’s the master of helping you lose the last 5-10 pounds of stubborn fat, and I know he’d agree with these 3 rules for fat burning exercises. And while DIET is the key to fat loss, fat burning exercise has been PROVEN to “target belly fat even better than diet,” says Gary R. Hunter, a professor of human studies at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

John and I both know this and that’s why we give you the PERFECT fat burning workout programs that don’t make these mistakes…

1) Never Round Your Back

Remember the guy I mentioned that was doing deadlifts? Let me explain his bad exercise technique. With each repetition he contorted his body and rounded his back into a bent-over “C” position.

Rounding your back is incredibly dangerous for the disks in your spine and ANY time you round your back you are at risk of a disk herniation. This includes doing rowing exercises, crunches, and sit-ups. Never, ever do those ab exercises, and never, ever round your back – even when you pick up dumbbells, toys, pets, or garbage off the floor.

Besides, as reported in the NY Times, sit-ups and crunches “will not slim your belly. Situps do not spot reduce the waistline,” Dr. Hunter said. You’re much better off training with fat burning exercises in a circuit – like the ones that John Romaniello and I love to give you.

2) Forget Cardio and Fitbits

Not only is cardio useless for weight loss, it doesn’t seem to protect against diabetes, either. Check this out from the Washington Post called, Take Off that Fitbit:

“Timothy Noakes, a leading sports and exercise medicine scientist, exemplifies those results. Despite being an almost daily runner and completing more than 70 marathons in his lifetime, Noakes developed Type 2 diabetes in his late 50s, which he attributes to his excessive consumption of sugar and other refined carbohydrates.”

Yikes! Many of the old-school exercise ‘gurus’ that loved cardio and carbohydrates were wrong about how to live. That’s a sad story, and I don’t want you to make the same mistakes. Stop doing cardio and switch to metabolic resistance training circuits, like the one that John uses on his Hollywood and NYC clients to get them in shape fast.

3) Drop the weight, focus on reps

If you’ve tried doing the Insanity workouts or lifting weights at your gym, chances are you’ve gotten caught up in a ‘workout competition’ against others or even yourself. But that’s a bad idea because pushing for performance often leads to performing without perfection.

Simply said, we get tempted to do exercises with bad form. This ends up causing injury and putting on the disabled list for weeks or months, and then we gain all the weight back. I know. I learned this the hard way as a teenager, and that’s why I focus on perform form in fat-burning circuits instead of bodybuilding silliness or jumping around like a crazy person in the Insanity workouts (which destroy your knees).

Those are just 3 of the Fat Burning Exercise Rules you need to follow. But if all of this seems a little overwhelming, let me simplify things for you. Just remember this…

A) Resistance exercise burns belly fat faster than dieting.
B) Cardio is over-rated and over-used for fat loss and health.
C) Do NOT waste your money on an inaccurate Fitbit.
D) Never round your back when you do any exercise – so that means NO crunches.
E) Use fat-burning circuit training to fire up your metabolism and melt that belly fat fastest.

These FAT LOSS RULES can help you lose 10-100 pounds. But if you’ve ever wondered why losing the last 5-10 pounds is harder than losing the first 10-50, my friend John “Roman” Romaniello answers that question on the next page here.
