This is very sad. The poor woman was doing one of the most useless exercises I have ever witnessed.

It wasn’t crunches, although we all know how terrible those are (they waste your time and don’t trim your waist at all!). In fact, according to

Men’s Health magazine, it takes 22,000 crunches for your to lose a pound.

Pathetic. Traditional ab training, such as crunches and sit-ups, is as useless as slow cardio. I really hope you don’t do either of those exercises.

But what about that poor girl and the #1 ab exercise you should not do?

Well, here’s how it went down. I was at the old YMCA last week finishing up a TT strength workout (coming soon!) and a young gal walked into the weight area (always good to see ladies lifting weights).

But instead of doing something useful like split squats, dumbbell presses, or dumbbell rows (<= a nice circuit right there), she grabbed two weight plates and did something silly.

While standing and holding the weights, she started twisting from side to side (as if she was doing the old-school useless exercise, “Broomstick Twists“). And she thought that by holding heavy weight plates that she was working her abs harder.

Instead, she was just dangerously twisting her spine and wasting her time. She is going to hurt herself and she’s not going to get results.

So sad. So useless. So avoidable. She should do this instead…
