One Simple Rule to Achieve More
Today you’re going to discover how to get more done in less time, an essential ingredient in life if you really want to achieve your goals.
There’s ONE simple RULE you’re going to learn today that will give you two major benefits.
First, it will increase productivity…and second, it will give you a feeling of accomplishment. You know that feeling when you know you’ve moved your business or your life ahead – and it helps you avoid that dreaded feeling of “oh no, I let another day get away from me and it doesn’t feel like I accomplished anything today”.
That’s one of the worst. feelings. ever.
And there’s just one very simple rule you must live by in order to get all the benefits and eliminate all the negatives of that lack of accomplishment.
Here’s what it is…
Get one major thing done from your to do list BEFORE you do anything else each day.
That means before you check email or phone messages, before you do the social rounds at work or stop by the water cooler.
Do not pass go. Do not collect $200. Do not start playing Monopoly. Or Angry Birds. Or Angry Bird Monopoly.
Do not do anything else until you’ve moved ahead a major project or goal in your life.
(BTW, it’s 6:05am as I write this and this email will be the 3rd big thing I’ve knocked off my list before doing anything else…although the dog is clearly getting antsy for a walk.)
To do this, you need to restructure your daily lifestyle design.
And don’t tell me you can’t do this, because you can. Everyone can.
CEO’s can. Prisoners can. And everyone in between, even Prisoner CEO’s, can change.
Here’s a story of when I first saw this in action…
Now let’s say your main goal is to lose weight. That means you need to exercise and eat right. So the first thing you should do in your day is to start with a workout or a walk.
That will get you closer to your goal, because how many times have you tried to implement an exercise program ‘after work’ that just falls to the wayside because of other commitments.
Happens all the time, right?
Well, here’s what my most successful clients did back when I was a personal trainer in the gym everyday…they got up, and scheduled a workout with me first thing in the morning. I had guys that wanted to come in at 5am, but our gym didn’t open until 6am.
But I was booked all morning with successful people because they knew that if they didn’t have that morning appointment, that their schedule would break down and the afternoon workout would somehow get skipped or canceled.
The behavior of my clients inspired me to get up even earlier and get one major thing done in my Internet business at 4:30am.
Doing that was one of the MAIN reasons I was able to escape the personal trainer rat race of working from 6am to 8pm on a split schedule with a lot of downtime spent away from home.
Now let’s look at this concept in terms of our career.
If you’re a writer like me, you have to attack the day with writing. If you read about any prolific author, they almost always have a set routine where they glue their butt to a chair first thing in the morning and do not get up until a word count or page count has been finished. This is non-negotiable. And that’s why they are able to crank out so much work each year.
If you have a product that you want to create – and that you know will be a big lever in your business – then before you do anything else each day you should be sitting your butt down and cranking away on the product.
Get up earlier. Get working.
Forget showers. Forget breakfast. Forget everything else for the first 20-60 minutes of your day.
Give it at least 20 minutes.
Doing this consistently will change your life because your creative mind is on fire first thing in the morning.
And yes, this ONLY works for EVERYONE, so stop making excuses.
There are few things more pathetic than an adult making childish excuses.
(And I know because I’m guilty of making excuses that are clearly pathetic in hindsight. We all are. Don’t let this be another incidence.)
This habit is just a matter of practice.
And if you’re serious about success, you’ll do what I say.
Getting one major thing done each morning before you do ANYTHING else is absolutely critical to your success.
It might be the most important tip I could give you on improving your situation in life.
Follow it, use this tip consistently, and you’ll make dramatic steady progress to your goal each and every day, week, and month.
Each action brings momentum…momentum brings more action.
And action plus momentum bring success.
