Why Punishing the Rich Is a Bad Idea

By Matt Furey

The latest laugh in the news.

Secretary of State Clinton begs the Chinese to keep the American economy going.

Don’t know if you catch the irony. For years, we’ve been told that China is nothing but a bunch of thugs who do NOTHING but abuse human rights – and, yes, there are abuses I don’t agree with.

But to be fair, very little is reported on the Chinese love of capitalism. Very little on how they love the sound of the cash register going “ka-ching.” Very little on the number of rich now living there.

Funny, isn’t it?

China changed direction when they stopped redistributing the wealth and did as Deng Xiao Ping advised.

What did he advise?

Two things:

1. To Grow Rich Is Glorious.

2. Yi bu fen ren, qian fu qi lai.

Translation for #2: If you want the country to prosper, you must let a few people at a time get rich. You CANNOT make everyone rich at the same time.

Deng realized that prosperity “trickles down.” Some people get wealthy. They, in turn, inspire more to do likewise. And the next batch inspires more. And so on.

But if you punish the rich, if you spread the wealth… the country loses and no one wins.

Now let me be even clearer about something. I am NOT saying we should leave Bernie Madoff alone. I am also NOT thinking of him when I think of capitalism. Nor am I am thinking of anyone else who is corrupt.

Some people have the misguided notion that capitalism and corruption go hand in hand.

No they don’t. That’s why we have laws.

Yes, there are those who will use capitalism in illegal ways. But their crimes are nothing compared to the crimes of those who steal your dignity and humanity in favor of making everything “fair.”

The other day my wife, Zhannie, told me something I didn’t know about her early days in China – before we married:

“When I worked in the factory in China, before the government opened the door and let people make money,” she said, “everyone got the same pay, no matter what.

“It was 35 dollars a month.

“So we took our knitting needles to work. And everyone knitted when they were supposed to be working. Everyone in my family can knit. Blankets, sweaters, clothes, you name it.

“And we’d go home for lunch and stay too long. Or we’d sneak outside and play around. We did as little as possible. Everyone was this way. NO ONE worked hard. Everyone told you NOT to do your best because it didn’t matter anyway. You got paid the same no matter what.”

When it came to money, China used to have no self-image. But when it changed… look

what happened.

And now the U.S. government is begging these “thugs” to help us with our economy.

Very, very interesting.

Now let’s look at money on a personal level.

Truth is that although most people will tell you they’d like to have more – if you had a barometer that measured how they feel inside about the idea of having more, you’d find that their feelings don’t match what they say they want.

What this means is quite simple: If you have a goal but your emotional state is incongruent with that goal, you’ll never attain it.

It’s easy to say you WANT something. But how do you FEEL inside when you say you want it?

How do you feel inside when you picture yourself having it? If the answer is anything less than absolutely fantastic, you aren’t going to get what you want.

Your ability to achieve goals is directly proportional to the level of passion you have inside about them. When the commies didn’t let anyone make money above and beyond

anyone else, no passion. And no prosperity.

Success and positive FEELING go hand in hand.

This is why it’s so important to imagine what you want. But before you do so, you’ve go to put yourself into the right FEELING state.

If you imagine what you want when you’re in a negative feeling state, you begin attracting the opposite of what you want.

Right now, most of the U.S. is in a negative feeling state about the economy. And this situation isn’t going to change until our leadership and their lap-dog media begin to change the way they’re communicating on the subject. Right now, they’re imagining nothing but crisis and catastrophe – and they’re creating more of it with each passing day.

But I wonder what would happen if they changed what they’re imagining – what they’re communicating – and gave people optimism and hope instead of fear and despair.

What would happen if they stopped blaming and started changing?

It boggles the mind to imagine such a thing, because I know how much a changed imagination will change YOU.

I also know how fast your life will change when you open the gates and allow the good to enter.

The Easy Way to Internet Profits for Lazy Entrepreneurs

If you can push a button, you can make money online.  Yes, there’s more to it than that, but not too much. Just 3 simple steps. This new online business opportunity is for truly lazy entrepreneurs who still want to make a very nice online income.

I’m still shaking my head at how shockingly simple and easy this is.  And this business has been purposely kept “low-key” to keep others from discovering and using it.  Not anymore, because one of the Internet’s elite has just spilled the beans…

One-Click Market Research

By Bob Bly

I (and my clients) get “great” ideas for information products to sell online all the time. But I don’t invest one cent or one minute in developing an idea until I’ve checked to make sure there is an actual market for it.

My first step is to see if the topic is generating keyword searches on engines like Google and Yahoo!

There are a couple of keyword research tools out there, but I use spacky.com. It tells me how many times per month keywords related to the topic are being searched. If Spacky shows fewer than 10,000 searches per month on Yahoo!, the market may not be large enough to justify producing the product.

[Ed. Note: Effective market research is just one element of a successful Internet business. Master copywriter and marketing consultant Bob Bly (www.bly.com) will share this and dozens of other Secrets to Selling on the Internet this March 20-22. Get the details here... but hurry. The “Immortal Health Elixir”

By Yarixa Ferrao

Usually you drink to quench your thirst. But there’s a great tasting, energizing beverage that does much more for you.

I’m talking about Kombucha.

Kombucha is a lightly sweetened, fermented tea that dates back to China’s Qin Dynasty (around 250 BC), where it was called the “immortal health elixir.” The fermentation process forms:

• Enzymes that aid digestion

• Probiotics – the good bacteria that help with immune function, nutrient absorption, and inflammation reduction

• Organic acids, which help detoxify the liver

• Polyphenols, chemical substances found in plants that have antioxidant characteristics

• B Vitamins, which help support and increase metabolism, maintain healthy skin and muscle tone, enhance immune and nervous system function, and promote cell growth

Best of all, Kombucha is low in calories and sugar, so you can drink it every day.

You can brew it yourself, but I don’t recommend it. My favorite commercial brand is Synergy, available in lots of flavors, including Cosmic Cranberry, Gingerberry, and Gingeraide.

The Language Perfectionist: Return of the Confusables

By Don Hauptman

In previous columns, I’ve discussed words that are often confused. But the list is long, so here’s another batch to help you “get it right” in your speaking and writing.

• The adjective noisome means harmful, noxious, or offensive, especially to the sense of smell. Despite appearances, it has nothing to do with noisy.

• When referring to length or distance, use farther; when referring to an extension of time or degree, use further.

• The verbs recur and reoccur both mean to happen again. But reoccur means a one-time repetition, while recur implies multiple repetitions, often on a schedule.

• A horrible murder is grisly; it’s a bear that’s grizzly.

• The adjective effete doesn’t mean effeminate, nor does it mean wimpy or snobbish, as many people assume. The word is rarely used in its correct senses: barren, worn out, exhausted.

• A loner who doesn’t relish the company of others is best described as unsociable; the word antisocial implies hostility and aggressiveness.

• A choice between two objects or actions presents an alternative. Reserve the word alternate for something that varies repeatedly, such as alternating current.

[Ed Note: For more than three decades, Don Hauptman was an award-winning independent direct-response copywriter and creative consultant. He is author of The Versatile Freelancer, an e-book recently published by AWAI that shows writers and other creative professionals how to diversify their careers into speaking, consulting, training, and critiquing.]

It’s Fun to Know: Little-Known Ant Occupations

You’ve heard of worker ants, who dig tunnels… collectors, who go out in search of food… and the queen, of course, who rules the colony. But an anthill is a big place, and there are a lot more jobs to do. Here are a few you’ve probably never heard of:

• Garbage removers, who take “trash” out of the nest

• Morticians, who remove dead ants

• Explorers, who count their steps to figure out the way back home

• Internet marketers, who work on building the list and executing product launches

• Farmers, who herd and “milk” other bugs and cultivate fungus for food

(Okay. Just kidding about the Internet marketers. But the rest is true.)

Are You Embarrassed of What You Do for a Living – or Just Tired of Doing It?

One woman was both, and while her “acquaintances” at a dinner party snickered and poked fun, she had the last laugh. In as little as two weeks she started a new business for less than $99, soon had to hire additional employees to handle the work, and now lives a life without money worries of any kind.

Here’s how you can do the same, even easier and faster than she did.

Word to the Wise: Misnomer

A “misnomer” (mis-NOH-mur) – from the French for “wrongly name” – is the incorrect or inapplicable name or designation of a person or thing.

Example (as used by Carl Van Vechten in Tiger in the House): “Copy cat is a misnomer because cats never copy anybody.”

I just wanted to thank you for all the help you’ve given me in mastering the English language. While I feel it is one of the easiest languages to learn, it does take time and effort to perfect it. And that’s where you come in.
English is my second, or rather my third language, but it has become more natural to me than even my native language.

    Thanks for the “fine tuning”.

    Dorris

  2. Benjamin6 says:

Yes, its a bad idea to punish the rich. The problem is the system of things in America, has been punishing the not so rich for the last 2o years or so. So, it’s bad to punish the rich, who is it good to punish. Not to punish the rich is only a 1/2 solution. Our system has been breaking down into gross class inequality for the past 2o years or more. Now we’ve had abuse of power, by at least a group of the rich and it has lead to ecomomic breakdown. The system, by that I mean the system of supports and rewards, needs to be modifed in such a way as to assure the continuence of our great country. .
I don’t think there is a listening here for solutions presented by me here in this forum, so I
won’t offer any. Perhaps others who read this, will think of more creative solutions and offer them into public discourse.

  3. very inspiring article .i hope people understand the differeence between capitalism & socialism .You have email this article to obama, nancy pelosey, clinton, all the democratic leaders in washington.you need to organize a educationing campaign.excellent.

  4. Debby says:

What a great well wrtten article … How interesting is it that communism has not worked for other countries and yet our leader now pushes us closer to it via socialist thinking each day … Your article is a sensible look at what the Chinese have learned … Not political … just common sense … That is what we need right now … A new thought, a new alternative … sommon sense and simple logic, which it seems equals the Constitution. I read your emails and often wonder how to apply your thoughts to our Dental Spa and market via email to our local area as we are not helped or so it would seem by nation wide traffic. We are in Las Vegas.(www.fourseasonsdentalspa.com) Perhaps this is something that you can answer in a future email or reply to me personally … Thank you, Debby

  5. Ed La France says:

This article is gross stupidity written by a republican lamebrain without any economic common sense.

We beg for money from China- because of the systemic problem of constantly cutting taxes , and then letting the last three republican presidents run up deficits like drunken sailors.

China is investing over one trillion dollars in infrastructure development as we speak- and all you people can talk about is punishing the rich. The rich have a good deal. Terry Shaffer in 2007, made 136,500,000 trading gas futures for Morgan Stanley. Play the violins for ambiance.

We have a Wall Street and Banking system totally FUBAR and are coming to the taxpayers for bailout
after bailout while they draw millions in bonuses and salary and bitch about the tax rate. You better pray for China to keep lending us money, so we can keep going farther in debt, and we can keep bailing out the incompetent, rich welfare kings who have screwed up the entire world economy and want a bonus. ASSHOLE>

  6. cheryl says:

    Why not make your own?

  7. Patricia says:

I have been making my own Kombucha for over 6 years and it is wonderful – the most refreshing drink – bar none – that i have ever had.

What is wrong with making your own? It is the best – i know what is in it, nothing is taken away, it is not watered down, it has no preservatives added, it does not touch metal of any kind, which the commercial teas in glass jars with tin tops do.

The very best way to have Kombucha is to make your own. I love it & it is not difficult.

  8. Jeff says:

I too have been making my own kombucha for about seven years, which is far, far less expensive than buying commercially produced product. For instance, I liked Dr. Sklar’s kombucha, but a quart bottle was $18! Anyone who can boil water, make tea and add sugar can make kombucha. All you need is starter culture, and you need to keep it free of contaminants. There is plenty of information online to explain all this.

  9. Martha says:

Absolutely make your own Kombucha! Cost effective, organic, you can brew to your preference, containerize in best possible way. Contamination is rare and if you give the cultures as gifts you are helping spread good health to your friends willing to start their own brew (or it makes good compost for the garden).
Kombucha helps me have energy and focus and helps quell appetite when I am stressed. Kombucha is the best thing ever! Oh, and if I am craving wine and should not, kombucha helps with cravings and I hear hangovers!
