Thanks for the great article, Steenie. As always your articles in the various publications you write for are informative and helpful.

We have rented a small studio apartment in the center of Paris for a trip coming up in April. The price is less than staying in hotels and one can pretend one is a local when we pick up the baguette, the vin, the fromage...I can hardly wait.

As you so aptly pointed out, this is the way to travel!

Steenie, thanks for pointing out these great ideas. I agree that there are plenty of affordable options in interesting places for traveling this year. With resources like this, people won't have to look quite as hard to find those good deals.

I also wanted to mention that I work for HomeAway, and appreciate your pointing out one of the great values you can find on the site. Have you ever rented any of the Paris apartments or other properties through HomeAway?

This type of travelling is amazing--and I did it before responsibilities in the States limited our vacations.

Many destination vacation spots are looking for ways to serve Americans during this difficult time.

For example, Callaway Gardens (south of Atlanta) is a great family resort. They are offering free admission for the month of February. It's a very beautiful golf and nature resort.

This is certainly more achievable for families with time and financial constraints.
