Why Positive Thinking Doesn't Work - Masterson
The article contradicts itself over terminology. Saying positive affirmations to yourself IS a form a VISUALIZATION that Masterson says DOES work. I personally believe and have seen the Law of Attraction work in my life. The problem is that in come cases I really don't believe what I want to happen and thereforeit probably won't. I also believe it matters what words we use for our affirmations. For example if you say you want something specific to occur, you are validating that you currently don't have it. Therefore IF your subconscious mind works the way people (The Secret) say it works, it recognizes you do not have it and therefore finds ways to make sure you never will. If you want something to happen you first need to know what that is you want, you need to see (visualize) yourself as already having it and more importantly, you cannot sit back and wait for some miracle to appear - you must start the ball rolling by taking action. For example if you want to be debt free, thinking about it won't make it so. You first have to stop spending and then figure out a way to pay off what you already have as debt. It is the action that makes it happen. Thinking about it helps you to identify the actions needed. Constantly seeing yourself as already having achieved it makes you AWARE of what you want and therefore you think before you spend the next time. It applies to just about everything. It worked for me to lose 50 pounds. I first knew what I wanted, to weigh 185. I saw myself buying 34" waist pants. More importantly I asked myself this question. Is what I am about to eat or drink consistent with my deisre to weigh 185, if yes, I ate it or drank it; if no, I didn't. I now weight 183.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it!
