I was four years old. Mom and I were driving home from town out to the old Ballantyne farm. She was sad. I remember the look on her face as if it were yesterday. I said, “Mommy, what’s wrong?” She looked over at me in the front seat of her big green boat of a car (without either of us wearing seat belts, after all it was 1979), and said, “I didn’t lose any weight at my weight watchers meeting today.” Then she sighed.
