The Big January 3 Meteor Shower
Pray for clear skies tonight. The Quadrantids, a meteor display first noted by astronomers in the 1830s, will be making an appearance. The “show,” most noticeable in western North America, will peak with an expected one or two meteor sightings per minute in the hours just before dawn. The Quadrantids actually make their way here every year, though conditions often make viewing difficult. But astronomers predict the 2009 run will be a “stellar” year for Quadrantid-watching.
