I got this idea from Tim, an ETR reader who had this to say about ETR products:

Tim makes a good point about the programs we sell. Most of them are, indeed, based on learning a valuable skill. And, generally speaking, it takes about 600 to 1,000 hours to complete them.

Do Your Personal Goals Take a Back Seat to Work?

And after 25 years of being too busy with work, I began taking real vacations with my wife.

Do I sometimes feel like I am “sacrificing” my work for my personal goals? Yes, once in a while. But when I look back at the choices I’ve been making,

I realize that the memories I am creating and the sense of well-being I’ve gained from using all my time better are priceless.

Take a second and remind yourself of this important fact: Time cannot be replenished once it is gone. If you’re not including time with friends and family (and time with yourself!) in your schedule, you’re losing that time for good.

Talking Trash About Customers

“If I was you, I would have kicked her out.”

“I would have smacked her.”

“And her husband… what a @*&#%. ‘Now you’re sure this is compatible?’ he asked me for the umpteenth time. I couldn’t take it.”

Several employees of my local cellphone store were blowing off steam about a “difficult” customer. But they weren’t doing it afterhours at a local bar. They were standing right in front of me while one of them was ringing up my purchase. And there were about 10 other customers within earshot.

As Michael Masterson says: “The customer should be treated as if he is right, even when he is wrong.” And that applies even when you’re not dealing directly with a customer service problem.

If you run a business where your employees interact with customers, clients, business partners, vendors, etc. (pretty much any business), you must have a zero-tolerance policy for “trash talking.” Employees should put on a public face when anyone outside the company is around. No gossiping, no insulting comments about former associates… nothing negative.

2 Unlikely Sources of Fat-Loss Advice

Recently, I came across two quotes that are unlikely sources of fat-loss advice. The first is from legendary real estate speculator Frank McKinney: “Figure yourself out. Spend time in introspection.” The other is the title of a coaching program from Dan Sullivan: “Discover your strengths.”

Both quotes serve as a reminder to take the time to identify our strengths, and then to focus on those strengths for business success. And that’s exactly what we should do for fat-loss success.

So take a good 15-30 minutes today to figure out your strengths and weaknesses.

When do you always have energy? Identify that and try to plan your workouts at that time. What foods do you really like that are also good for your health and fat loss? Think about that and stock your fridge and cupboards with those foods.

A bit of reflection can help you re-engineer your life to suit your strengths and get you more results. Plan your day. Design your life. Engineer your success. Don’t be afraid to be a little bit “selfish” and make time for YOU! Once you start planning for success, you are already on the path.

It’s Good to Know: Nicotine-Free Cigarettes

Japanese researchers are working on a method for producing tobacco without nicotine. They hope that cigarettes made with this tobacco will make it easier for smokers to quit. Instead of going cold turkey, they will be able to “enjoy” the ritual of lighting up – which for many is a big part of the habit – while gradually eliminating their addiction to the nicotine itself.

The scientists have found the gene responsible for bringing nicotine from the roots to the tobacco plant leaves. They are now experimenting with growing plants without this gene. There are some hurdles. For one, if all the nicotine stays in the roots, it might kill the plant before it can grow enough to be harvested.
