ONE Sweetener You SHOULD Be Eating

Sugar can be extremely hazardous to your health.

Many doctors and nutritionists are in agreement that processed white sugar is more addictive than cocaine, and has detrimental effects on the body. Low calorie sweeteners are just as dangerous.

I used to have a wicked sugar addiction that took some serious effort to cure… but it was worth it for my health.

Chronic issues such as weight irregularities, mood disorders, cognitive disruption, diabetes, cancers, metabolic syndrome, heart disease, and lowered immune function can be traced back to excessive sugar consumption.

There are numerous forms of sugar available, all cleverly marketing their health benefits, but there is only ONE “sugar” that I recommend my clients use — and even I have switched to using it regularly:

Raw, Local Honey

In its raw form, honey contains a highly concentrated dose of vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients that help nourish and revitalize your body.

True raw honey is quite different from processed, commercial honey. Raw honey is the pure, unheated, unpasteurized and unprocessed nectar from flowers.

This means all the natural vitamins, minerals, enzymes, phytonutrients, and other nutritional elements — all the health benefits — are preserved along with two key constituents: bee pollen and propolis.

Bee Pollen is a super nutritious compound, containing all the nutrients required by the human body:

  • Proteins
  • Vitamins and minerals
  • Beneficial fatty acids
  • Carotenoids and bioflavonoids
  • Antiviral and antibacterial protection

Propolis is a resinous substance that bees gather from trees to line the hive and keep it healthy. Its health benefits are quite numerous, because it contains:

  • Antibacterials
  • Antivirals
  • Antifungals
  • Anti-inflammatories
  • Antioxidants

The Benefits of Raw, Local Honey are so vast. Here are just a few:

  • Forms alkaline in the body
  • Boosts the immune system
  • Acts as a powerful cough suppressant
  • Decreases allergies to pollen
  • Aids in regulating blood sugar and cholesterol, and in healing ulcers
  • Treats various bacterial infections and the flu
  • Heals wounds; including burns, skin infections, and bug bites
  • Supports healthy digestion, skin, and scalp
  • Boosts energy

It took me a long time to not be afraid of “sugar.” I was so confused by all the mixed messages in the media and grocery stores — and for good reason. There are plenty of sneaky “low-calorie” products that will destroy your gut, your immune system, your mind, and your waistline.

When I switched to eating more whole foods, often locally raised, and fueled my food journey with love, I found that I don’t need to be afraid of food. I embraced nourishment.

How do you source the best raw local honey?

It’s really easy… visit your local farmer’s market or hop online to find the local beekeeping association site to speak directly with a beekeeper in your area.

Find one who uses no chemicals or pesticide treatments, does not feed or move their bees, does not filter or heat their honey, uses wooden frames and a natural wax foundation, and has beehives within 5 miles of your home.

If you can’t find one fitting all of these criteria, aim for meeting at least some of them.

With mindfulness and moderation, I enjoy adding this sweet treat into my dietary lifestyle. Raw Local Honey is one sweetener that does my body and my community good! Support your local beekeepers and see how it does your body good, too!
