Its Good to Know: Energys Coming in With the Tide
Archives: Articles
The world’s largest tidal turbine engine, located off the coast of Northern Ireland, began generating electricity in July. The turbine works underwater, powered by moving tides (which are more predictable than the wind that powers its wind-driven counterparts). The turbine will be able to produce enough electricity to power 1,000 homes.
But don’t get too excited about this new energy source just yet. It is estimated that tidal energy has the potential to account for only a small percentage of the world’s energy needs.
