The largest diamond ever mined on Earth weighed in at 3,000 carats (about 1.3 pounds) before being cut. But that is a mere speck compared to "Lucy," a planet-sized diamond found by astronomers about 50 light years away. At 2,500 miles wide and an estimated 10 billion trillion trillion carats, it is believed to have been the heart of a star. And, yes, the name is from the Beatles’ song "Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds."
