You won’t be surprised to learn that listening to your iPod at a high volume for long periods of time – via headphones – can cause hearing loss. The cells destroyed by constant, loud music are irreplaceable. But some headphones – those that block out background noise – can help keep your hearing safe.     I bought noise canceling headphones some years ago. I got off an airplane from a cross country trip that conveniently included a crying 2-year-old in the seat directly behind mine. My regular earbuds could not block out the sound.

    I didn’t even go home first. I wanted to make sure to never be without them on any future flights. I’m not and they work just fine!
