You’re going to be given an incredible, NO-equipment 5-minute fat burning circuit that you can do anytime, anywhere, but first, you’re going to hear a funny story about how I was paid $40 to eat a salad at a hotel.
I spent the weekend in Austin, Texas (what a fun, fantastic city full of wonderful people!) at the Paleo FX seminar. It was an interesting event, and gave me a few ideas to make our 5th TT Summit in June even better. But it wasn’t the Paleo FX seminar that was the highlight of my trip. Instead, it was a hotel employee named Bobby, and the BEST hotel stay I’ve ever had in my life
You know, I stay in hotels about 150 nights a year, and have been doing so for a few years now. I’ve stayed at great hotels (like the Four Seasons when I visit our office in Denver), run-of-the-mill ‘déjà vu’ hotels where they all look the same (like the Sheraton Airport in Toronto and the Holiday Inn in Lapeer, Michigan), and I’ve stayed in dumps, like last summer when I’m sure I stayed in the worst hotel in Rome.
This weekend I stayed at the JW Marriott in Austin and it was the best hotel experience I’ve ever had. From the beautiful lobby to the enormous hotel gym (with a real squat rack and heavy dumbbells!) to the wonderful view of Austin and the Colorado River, everything about my stay was fantastic…until the salad.
On Friday afternoon, after a 9-hour day learning and wondering the expo hall at the Paleo FX event, I went back to my hotel and ordered the kale salad from room service. Ironically, there were no greens to be found at Paleo FX, all the booths focused on selling protein bars made from real meat and crickets…yep, cricket flour is the “NEW” thing in the Paleo world…tastes like chicken, by the way. 😉
When I ordered the salad, I had to be picky and the chef specially prepared a grain-free, dairy-free version. The ingredients were simply kale, squash, tomatoes, pepita seeds, and pickled grapes…but somehow that mixture was one of the best salads I’ve had in a long time.
I had to call in-room dining and rave about it and to tell them I would be ordering it again for lunch the next day. Now I guess they are used to hearing from upset customers, and don’t get enough compliments, because within 15 minutes a note was slid under my door.
“Dear Mr. Ballantyne, thank you for your feedback on the salad,” an employee named Bobby wrote, “Here’s a $40 voucher to our restaurant for you to enjoy more of what we have to offer.”
Wow. I just got paid $40 for eating a salad. My lucky day. And that was the icing-on-the-cake that put my hotel experience over the top. I can’t say enough good things about the JW Marriott in Austin, and now when I travel to other cities, I might give up my allegiance to Westin Hotels (a fitness-focused hotel chain) and search out JW Marriott hotels.
That’s the power of customer service, of going the extra mile, and of delivering delight via the customer experience.

5-Minute Extreme Fat Loss Fat Burning Circuit
1) Bodyweight Punisher Squat – 20 seconds squats, 10 second hold in bottom position
2) Total Body Extension – 60 seconds
3) Pushup – 60 seconds *(1-1-1-1) => Hold top Pushup Plank if you fatigue
4) Side-to-Side Mini-Jump – 30 seconds (Jump 6-inches side-to-side, landing on both feet)
5) Switch Lunge – 30 seconds per side (lunge forward on right leg, then back on left leg)
6) Wall Squat Hold – 60 seconds
– Rest 1 minute and repeat no more than one more time.
– *(1-1-1-1) means 1 second to lower, 1 second pause at bottom, 1 second to press back up, and 1 second pause at the top for each rep.
